At Omaha HAVEN we strive to assist families in transitioning between public and home-school settings and provide opportunities for Latter-Day Saint home-school families and their friends to connect in meaningful ways. Everyone is welcome to utilize this resource and participate in activities as we each seek to fulfill our divine charge--to build families that are respectful, educated, compassionate, faith-filled contributors to a civil society.

More About Adventure Groups and Starting your Own

The Purpose of Adventure Groups

  • Children and youth who continually try new activities that push them both mentally and physically have more confidence, less perfectionistic tendencies, and more grit. The purpose of these adventure groups is to have fun building confidence while helping families build connections.
What Is An "Adventure", You May Ask?
  • An activity your family loves doing that you feel others would enjoy. A park day, board games, hiking, zoo…the sky’s the limit.
  • Something your family has never tried before but has always wanted to try.
  • Etc. (Scroll down for "Adventure Ideas")
How Often Do We Meet For Adventure Group?
  • Once per month is typical.
How Do I Organize This Group?
  1. Find other interested families (local friends, ward members, families of your kids friends, etc.)
  2. Create a "welcome" email.
  3. Create a sign-up method, preferably one that can be edited by all participants. (i.e. shared google doc form - See sample below).
  4. Determine a way to remind participant families of activities and relay last minute changes (i.e. facebook page, meetup, group me, texting, etc.).
What Are My Responsibilities as a Participant?
  • Plan one activity for the group per year. Simply fill in a blank space on the group sheet with the necessary information (i.e. location/date/time/cost/etc).
  • If the group is smaller than 12 families, feel free to plan an additional activity.
  • If a planned activity costs, you are responsible to pay the cost for you and your family.
